No. 14/13ill No. 3 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 10:28 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 3, reports as follows: Bill No. 3, transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication No. 14 dated November 12, 2014, amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 3, Section 24-275.1, Schedule 23.1 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to new public road taxi stand location. The bill adds a portion of Alii Drive to Subsection (f), Kona, to provide taxi parking between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. daily. Public Works Civil Engineer Aaron Takaba appeared before Your Committee for questions. He stated that the new taxi stand location was requested by the Police Department to accommodate late night restaurant visitors on Alii Drive. Mr. Takaba further included that the Police Department set the taxi parking hours. Council Chair Dru Kanuha spoke in support of the bill; however, he voiced his concern with the area south of the new taxi stand location, where taxis are currently parking and using up public parking spaces.
