V OF AV <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />>: 60 ;F <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />46 15 <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO APPROVE THE APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN AIRLINES <br />FOR ALLOCATION OF A NONSTOP ROUTE BETWEEN KONA, HAWAII, AND <br />TOKYO, JAPAN. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines, the largest airline in the State of Hawaii, has applied <br />for a nonstop route between Kona International Airport and Tokyo International Airport, <br />commonly known as Haneda Airport; and <br />WHEREAS, Kona has been without direct service from Japan since November 2010, yet <br />has more visitors from Japan than the 12 existing markets that currently provide nonstop service <br />to Tokyo; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines' extensive neighbor island routes provide nonstop <br />service to many world-class destinations throughout Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, there is an established demand for a nonstop -service route between Kona <br />and Tokyo, and approval of the application will have positive economic impacts on Hawaii <br />Island and the State of Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines estimates that the new service will provide an additional <br />39,000 visitors to Kona each year, generating 1,151 new jobs, $65,000,000 in new direct <br />spending, and $117,000,000 in total new sales; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />United States Department of Transportation is urged to approve the application of Hawaiian <br />Airlines for allocation of a nonstop route between Kona, Hawaii, and Tokyo, Japan. <br />
