REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY AND MASS TRANSIT DATE: March 17, 2015 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 1:45 P.M. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Re: Comm. No. 157 Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was Comm. No. 157, reports as follows: Communication 157, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated February 18, 2015, requests review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Peggy Hilton to the Hawaii County Police Commission. If confirmed, Ms. Hilton will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2019. Ms. Hilton replaces Leroy Victorine, whose term expired effective December 31, 2014. Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided background information on Nominee Hilton, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. Committee Chair Paleka informed Ms. Hilton that she did not need to appear before the full Council for confirmation. Pursuant to Section 7-2.2, Hawaii County Charter, there is established a Police Commission which shall consist of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
