REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br />AND MASS TRANSIT <br />DATE: March 17, 2015 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 1:45 P.M. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 156 <br />Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was Communication No. 156, reports as follows: <br />Communication 156, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated February 18, 2015, requests review and favorable <br />recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Shelby Nahale-a to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission. <br />If confirmed, Ms. Nahale-a will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2019. Ms. Nahale-a replaces Greg Gauthier, <br />whose term expired effective December 31, 2014. <br />Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided background information <br />on Nominee Nahale-a, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. <br />Several Council Members expressed support of Ms. Nahale-a's appointment to the commission. <br />Committee Chair Paleka informed Ms. Nahale-a that she did not need to appear before the full Council for <br />confirmation. <br />Pursuant to Section 7-3.2, Hawaii County Charter, there is established a Liquor Commission consisting of nine <br />members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. <br />Your committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of <br />Communication No. 156, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Shelby K.
