V OF j, <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />�rE <br />OF•H� P <br />BILL NO. 57 <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 39 OF THE HAWAII <br />COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO THE <br />FEDERAL WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT PROGRAM. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br />SECTION 1. On July 22, 2014, President Barack Obama signed the Workforce <br />Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) into law. This law supersedes the Workforce <br />Investment Act of 1998 and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, the Wagner- <br />Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The WIOA takes effect on July 1, 2015, and the <br />purpose of this ordinance is to amend Chapter 2, Article 39 of the Hawaii County Code to <br />reflect the provisions of this new law. <br />SECTION 2. Chapter 2, article 39, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as <br />amended) is amended to read as follows: <br />"Article 39. Workforce [investment] Innovation <br />and Opportunity Act Program. <br />Section 2-189. Established. <br />There is established, within the County of Hawaii, a Workforce <br />[n ] Innovation and Opportunity Act program which shall be under the <br />direction and supervision of the mayor. <br />Section 2-190. Purpose. <br />The purpose of this program is to [impfeve the quality of the weAEfefee, <br />otic ei �zens] help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support <br />services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled <br />workers they need to compete in the global economy by implementing the <br />Workforce [went] Innovation and Opportunity Act of [ 1998.] 2014. <br />
