REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: August 18,2015 Re: Comm. No. 423/Res. No. 252-15 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:00 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 252-15, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No.252-15, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako,via Communication No. 423 dated <br /> July 31, 2015, awards a public access, open space, and natural resources preservation maintenance stewardship <br /> grant to Pohaha I Ka Lani. <br /> This resolution approves a grant of$83,500 to Pohaha I Ka Lani, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, for <br /> the purpose of protecting,preserving, and restoring the Waipi`o Valley Lookout property(TMK: 4-8-004:006), <br /> pursuant to Section 10-16 of the Hawai`i County Charter. <br /> Parks and Recreation Director Clayton Honma came before Your Committee for questions and comments, and <br /> recommended the approval of this stewardship grant application. <br /> Council Member Dennis Onishi expressed that his approval of the applicant would be reliant upon the favorable <br /> recommendation of Director Honma. <br /> Chair Karen Eoff clarified that at the July 1, 2015 Finance Committee meeting Director Honma, via <br /> Communication No. 344, submitted an evaluation of the stewardship applications, and that it was up to each <br /> Council Member to bring forward a resolution to approve a stewardship grant to the applicants.
