REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> AND MASS TRANSIT <br /> DATE: January 5, 20I6 Re: Comm.No. 608 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo,Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit,to which was referred Comm.No.608,reports as follows: <br /> Communication 608,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated December 15, 2015,requests review and <br /> favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mr.Radford Hirai. Mr. Hirai is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. <br /> He formerly worked at the Hilo Medical Center as a Telemetry Technician and is presently employed by the <br /> United Public Workers as a Business Agent. Mr. Hirai is a member of CELC , Community Engagement <br /> Legislative Committee, He states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will fill a <br /> vacant term to end on December 31, 2018. <br /> A motion to approve the nomination was made by Mr. Onishi and seconded by Ms.David. Executive Assistant <br /> to Mayor Kenoi, Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, introduced and provided background information on Nominee <br /> Hirai, expressed the Mayor's support and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. <br /> Unfortunately, Mr. Hirai did not appear in front of the Your Committee. In his absence, Committee Member <br /> Onishi encouraged his fellow district Council Members to vote contingent to his presence at the final <br /> confirmation by the Council. Ms. Wille stated she will support at this time, however, will not support <br /> nomination should Mr. Hirai be absent at the final confirmation by the Council.There was minimal discussion <br /> by Your Committee. Mr. Ilagan complimented Mr. Hirai`s characteristics of being soft spoken and a big <br /> thinker.
