/.�pMtY Os h,�;1 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> O -M'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 379 16 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND <br /> DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO THE PEOPLE'S ADVOCACY <br /> FOR TRAILS HAWAII (PATH) <br /> WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai'i County <br /> Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000 to nonprofit <br /> organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and <br /> the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or resolution; and <br /> WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County Code <br /> states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than profit- <br /> making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the Internal <br /> Revenue Code; and <br /> WHEREAS, PATH which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as defined above, <br /> works to promote economic opportunities in the County of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development wishes to provide <br /> $250,000 to the People's Advocacy for Trails Hawaii (PATH); and <br /> WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to develop, implement and manage the <br /> Bike Share pilot program on the Big Island; now, therefore <br /> WHEREAS, the goal of Bike Share program is to provide residents and visitors of <br /> the Big Island with an alternative mode of transportation for short trips between points of <br /> interest, businesses and hotels; now, therefore <br />
