Arakaki
Council Chair and Council Members
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
RE: BILL 226, DRAFT 2. SALARY ORDINANCE OF 1998
Dear Chairman Arakaki:
Pursuant to Section 3-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, I am taking
this opportunity to veto Bill 226, Draft 2.
In reviewing the amendments incorporated by Draft 2, we have found
that the County Council eliminated the following positions.
Band Director A-7
Director of Liquor Control A-18
First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney A-18
In vetoing Bill 226, Draft 2, the existing Salary Ordinance of
1997 will continue to be the basis by which affected employees
will be paid.
We also note that the Council added another salary range for
their employees which is titled LA -II. This addition results in
an inconsistent pay schedule in the LA ranges as there are now
two LA -II ranges with varying salaries.
I am sure that these omissions and inconsistencies were
inadvertent, and so I am returning Bill 226, Draft 2 to you, so
that you might re-examine these issues.
Sincerely,
0EPHEN AMASHIR0
Mayor, C my of Hawaii
SKY:RDW/1883Lbre
