Form #: B-52
7/18/91
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING
DEPARTMENT: ATTORNEY DATE: 2/23/2016
STAFF CONTACT: Lee Lord, Business Manager PHONE: 934-3315
A. REQUEST:
We are requesting the Council's permission to accept the $46,000 from the Department of the Attorney
General's Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, which is passing them through to us from Federal sources.
These funds will be used to partially pay for a new case management system for the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
We applied for a grant through the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center for funds to be used to purchase a
new Case Management System for the Prosecutor's office. Our case management system needs to
comunicate efficiently with the Hawaii Island Justice Information System (HIJIS), Hawaii Justice Information
System (HAWJIS) and Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS) projects. Our current system (APPX) has
evolved from a Wang project that began in the 1980's. The database platform that APPX uses (ISAM) is
becoming less and less known. In order for our system to integrate now and in the future with vendors and
Justice Systems we need a case management system that utilizes a contemporary database platform such
as SQL or Oracle.
We have submitted applications for other grants and will continue to explore additional funding sources.
This would include amending the budget to appropriate the funds to the project and creating a general ledger
account and revenue account for the funds.
SIGNED:
DATE:
Department Head
