No. 432-16 PLACE: Council Chambers Kona, Hawaii TIME: 10.45 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 432-16, reports as follows: Resolution No. 432-16, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Comm. No. 729 dated February 26, 2016, authorizes the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one fiscal year for a multi-year extension of lease of real property for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Kona. This resolution would provide a fourth extension of the lease to be authorized for a two-year period. The first year's rent would be $12,295.92 per month and the second year's rent would be $12,69002 per month. Council Member Dermis "Fresh" Onishi inquired as to why a longer term lease was not requested in that it would have cost less per month. He later also inquired as to whether funding was already provided for the new office. Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth stated that he anticipates that the new building for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney will be built by the time this new two year lease is finished. Finance Director Deanna Sako stated that funding was provided for the design of the new office, and they will be coming back to council when construction costs are known for an additional bond. The vote was taken on the motion to approve and passed with nine ayes. Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent of the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State governments or any other public body or bodies respecting action to be taken pursuant to any powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
