Mr. Paiva is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i. He is presently <br /> employed by the University of Hawai'i at Hilo as a Chief Ranger. From 2006 to 2010, <br /> he was employed by Keck Observatory as a Night Attendant Supervisor. Mr. Paiva was <br /> employed by the Hawai'i Fire Department from 1981 - 2006, where he retired as a <br /> Battalion Chief after 25 years of service. He is also a Retired Commander of 29 years <br /> with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. <br /> Mr. Paiva was a member of the State Health Planning & Development Agency, Hawai'i <br /> County Subarea Health Planning Council from 2002 — 2006. He states that he is not <br /> affiliated with any political party.
