REQUEST: <br /> To amend Chapter 18, Article 4, of the Hawai'i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to <br /> Public Transit System, Island Wide Fare Structure. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The amendment of this article will add Paratransit Services fares of$4.00 per ride on the Hele-On Kako'o <br /> Paratransit system. The $4.00 fare per ride will be for all individuals who uses the program. According to <br /> Federal Transit Administration, Section 37.131(c), the fare for a trip charged to an ADA paratranist eligible <br /> user of the complementary paratransit service shall not exceed twice the fare that would be charged to an <br /> individual paying full fare (i.e. without regard to discounts). The current bus full bus fare is $2. Due to the <br /> significant cost of operating paratransit services, $75.00/hour in Hilo and $80.00/hour in Kona, the Mass <br /> Transit Agency recommends the $4 fare. <br /> In addition, we are requesting to waive this bill from the Committee on Finance and proceed directly to <br /> Council. <br /> This will allow the amendment to begin September 1, 2016, if possible. <br /> Please contact Tiffany Kai or Karyle Yamane of Mass Transit at 961-8343, if there are any questions. <br /> SIGNED: CV T DATE: <br /> D artment Head <br />
