Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to name the North Kohala
Courthouse Building in Kapa`au, located at 54-3900 Akoni Pule Highway, to "Hale Kealoha `o
Kohala." The County of Hawai `i acquired the parcel from Kohala Sugar Company by deed
recorded on March 31, 1920, and the Judiciary, State of Hawaii, built the North Kohala
Courthouse on the County's parcel in or about 1975. The County recently began
using this as a gathering place for numerous activities. The residents of North Kohala are proud
that many of these activities will bring seniors together.
It is time to move on from informally calling this building "the old courthouse building"
by naming the building "Hale Kealoha `o Kohala," which can be roughly translated to "love of
Kohala building" or "home of love of Kohala."
SECTION 2.
