No. 684-16 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 4:33 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, HI 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Environmental Management, to which was referred Resolution No. 684-16, <br /> reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 684-16, transmitted by Council Member Margaret Wille, via Communication <br /> No. 1114, dated October 12, 2016, urges the County to join Malama 808 and encourage the use <br /> of Litterati, as recommended by the Hawai`i Island Packaging Sustainability Initiative <br /> Stakeholders Task Force. <br /> November 1, 2016: There were about 4 people who testified at the meeting - three spoke in <br /> support of this resolution and one spoke in opposition. After hearing all public testimony, <br /> Mr. Onishi called a recess to the November 15 meeting in Kona. <br /> November 15, 2016: Ms. Wille made a motion to approve Resolution No. 684-16, seconded by <br /> Mr. Paleka. Ms. Wille mentioned that Joy Gold helped her draft this resolution. She provided an <br /> explanation of the Malama 808 and Litterati programs and said that it is another vehicle of <br /> dealing with litter management issues. <br /> Mr. Paleka commented that he learned a lot from the taskforce - the Litterati app, Malama 808 <br /> and Aloha Drive. Mr. Chung questioned if there is a cost to join. Mr. Paleka responded that it <br /> cost nothing to join.
