MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN <br /> HILO MEDICAL CENTER'S (HMC) NURSING EDUCATION <br /> AND THE HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT (HFD) <br /> 16-0186 <br /> SUBJECT: Provide training courses for HFD Paramedics at HMC's Simulation Learning and <br /> Training Center. <br /> WHEREAS, the parties from Hilo Medical Center and HFD will continue a pilot program <br /> of collaborating and integrating HFD Paramedics into American Heart Association courses at <br /> HMC. HMC nursing staff also will be introduced and oriented into pre-hospital familiarization <br /> training opportunities. <br /> WHEREAS, the term of this agreement will be from November 1, 2015 through October <br /> 31, 2018. At which time, a re-evaluation, and updated MOA may be initiated. <br /> 1. HMC will train paramedics through ACLS and PALS recertification courses using <br /> American Heart Association standards of care. Paramedics may participate side by side <br /> in pre designated classes involving hospital and physician staff. <br /> 2. HFD's ACLS and PALS instructors will assist with teaching needs for HMC classes. <br /> Prior coordination will be made with the HMC's Simulation Training Center and AHA <br /> Training Center. <br /> 3. Paramedics will attend 1-day recertification sessions, sending a maximum five (5) <br /> students per class day each month as enrolled. No more than five (5) paramedics will be <br /> scheduled for a Thursday class and no more than five (5) paramedics will be scheduled <br /> for a Friday class each month, for a projected total of up to ten (10)paramedics receiving <br /> recertification training per month. <br /> 4. HFD will provide its own course manuals for paramedic students. <br /> 5. HFD will provide its own specific equipment and supplies for use during the course that <br /> are different from the equipment and supplies used by HMC (i.e., Zoll defibrillator/ <br /> AED, trauma / aid bag). <br /> 6. HMC critical care staff will take precedence over EMS paramedics in attendance and <br /> filling of courses. <br /> 7. HFD will pay $5.00 per paramedic student class fee to HMC nursing office upon <br /> registering students for recertification classes. <br /> 8. HFD EMS lead point of contacts: Battalion Chief Lance Uchida, Captain Chris Honda, <br /> and Captain Jessie Ebersole have offered to provide educational in-services as stated <br /> below: <br /> • PHTLS (2 hours per training event) <br /> • In-service with new HEPA personnel for EMS protocols (30 minutes to 1 hour for <br /> each briefing session) <br /> • Ride-alongs in Ambulances with ER and ICU staff(8-12 hours per shift, one ride- <br /> along per staff member) <br /> • EMS Overview in-service on Critical Care Day for Education Week (30 minutes to 1 <br /> hour for each monthly education week, critical care day) <br />
