Hilo, HI 96720 Dear Chair Poindexter and Members of the Hawai'i County Council: It is my pleasure to submit for your confirmation the appointment of Wilfred Okabe as Managing Director for the County of Hawai'i, pursuant to Section 6-1.2 of the Hawaii County Charter. This appointment was effective at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 5, 2016. Until recently, Mr. Okabe was Governor Ige's representative for East Hawaii. For almost two decades, Mr. Okabe served the State of Hawaii through the Department of Education in various capacities. In addition, Mr. Okabe was the education supervisor of the Hawai'i Job Corps, State of Hawaii, Department of Labor. Mr. Okabe received his Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education (K-12) from the Willamette University and his Masters of Education/Professional Development from Heritage College. His resume is attached for your information. Mr. Okabe will serve a term co -terminus with my tenure, which will end on December 7, 2020. Pursuant to Rule 5(6)(g) of the Rules of Procedure and Organization of the Council of the County of Hawaii, we respectfully request a waiver of this nomination through committee so that it may be considered by the full County Council on December 21, 2016.
