COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 28 17 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MALAMA KAI <br />FOUNDATION TO ASSIST THE WEST HAWAII FISHERY COUNCIL'S EFFORTS <br />TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE THE WEST HAWAII COAST. <br />WHEREAS, the Malama Kai Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is <br />dedicated to ocean stewardship for current and future generations through community service <br />and public education; and <br />WHEREAS, the Malama Kai Foundation supports the West Hawaii Fishery Council's <br />(WHFC) efforts to protect the health of the coral reef and marine species along the West Hawaii <br />coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the WHFC was created in June of 1998 to serve as the primary source for <br />formulating and recommending actions to the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural <br />Resources to further the goals of the West Hawaii Regional Fishery Management Area that was <br />established by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1998 via Act 306; and <br />WHEREAS, the Malama Kai Foundation is requesting funds to assist WHFC with <br />website operations, office supplies, and other miscellaneous expenses that will be used for <br />education and outreach to engage youth to establish a marine protected area along the West <br />Hawaii coast; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the Department of Liquor Control's goals is to support youth with <br />programs that promote alcohol- and drug-free events, such as programs that implement a safe <br />and healthy environment for learning; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Malama Kai Foundation to assist the West Hawaii <br />Fishery Council with preserving and protecting the West Hawaii coast. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
