COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />+SYIOF M,�Y <br />'ATE C:•NF'�M <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />36 1'7 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIG ISLAND <br />RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR THE SAKADA <br />DAY CELEBRATION 2016. <br />WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council (`Big <br />Island RC&D") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports conservation, agricultural <br />research, and economic development on Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, the Honorable Governor David Ige signed into law HB604, which <br />dedicated December 201h as Sakada Day, an honor that has been long awaited for by the Filipino <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, the second annual Sakada Day Celebration was hosted by Honoka`a town <br />on December 18, 2016 where they honored, showcased and commemorated the legacy of <br />125,000 sugar and pineapple plantation workers (sakadas) recruited between 1906-1946 by the <br />Hawaii Sugar Planters Association from the Philippines to work in Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, these "sakadas" or plantation recruits have greatly contributed to Hawai`i's <br />economic, social and cultural present-day society; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to Big Island RC&D toward reimbursement for the <br />cost of food and supplies associated with the Sakata Day Celebration 2016. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
