COUNTY OF HAWAII � / •'- STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 70 17 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE LAUPAHOEHOE TRAIN MUSEUM FOR EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH EXPANDING THE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AT THE HAWAIIAN CULTURAL CENTER OF HAMAKUA. WHEREAS, the Laupahoehoe Train Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that highlights the history of the railroads on Hawai`i Island and which preserves, promotes, and protects the historic, cultural, educational, social, civic, and economic interests of the North Hilo and Hamakua districts; and WHEREAS, the Laupahoehoe Train Museum has helped to establish the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua (HCCOH), a multi-cultural, multi-generational community center in the heart of Honoka`a; and WHEREAS, HCCOH is a place where people can deepen their connections with Hawaiian culture through community classes in art, hula, language, health, history, agriculture, and philosophy; and WHEREAS, HCCOH also hosts and allows others to host special events, guest speakers, community service projects, and cultural exchange programs; and WHEREAS, to enhance Hawai`i Island's visitor experience, HCCOH is requesting funds to expand its programs through special events geared towards educating and informing visitors about Hawaiian traditions and culture, which would include expenses for the facility, educational workshops, cultural displays and exhibits, and supplies; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Laupahoehoe Train Museum for expenses associated with expanding the community programs at the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
