REQUEST: <br /> Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a multi-year lease agreement for three (3) 120 cubic yard <br /> Refuse Trailers for a period of five (5) years for the Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste <br /> Division. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Solid Waste Division is requesting to lease finance three (3) 120 cubic yard (CY) Refuse Trailers to be <br /> used to transport refuse from the East Hawaii Regional Sort Station (EHRSS) to the West Hawaii Sanitary <br /> Landfill (WHSL). <br /> In preparation for the closure of the South Hilo Sanitary Landfill (SHSL), the division needs additional trailers <br /> to transport refuse to the WHSL. Currently, the division uses 100 CY refuse trailers to transport refuse from <br /> the EHRSS to the SHSL. These additional trailers will be larger in size in order to minimize the number of <br /> loads to the WHSL. These three trailers will allow the division to begin sending more loads to the WHSL in <br /> advance of the full closure of the SHSL. Additional trailers will be needed before the full closure of the SHSL <br /> occurs. <br /> Purchase price is estimated at $450,000.00, the estimated lease payment is $8,400 per month for the three <br /> transfer trailers. <br /> Funding for the lease is included in the Fiscal Year 2016-17 budget.
