COUNTYOFHAWAII -'9 % <br /> • ``'�=��' �_#- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO., 1G4 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND <br /> FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED <br /> FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE EAST HAWAII CULTURAL <br /> COUNCIL FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE HILO <br /> DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION'S ALOHA FIRST FRIDAY EVENT AT <br /> THE EAST HAWAII CULTURAL CENTER. <br /> WHEREAS,the East Hawai`i Cultural Council ("EHCC") is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit <br /> community organization that is dedicated to providing a cultural and educational venue for the <br /> greater community; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association("DIA") is an economic <br /> development agencywhose mission is to improve the business climate within the boundaries of the <br /> downtown Hilo area; and <br /> WHEREAS, EHCC and DIA encourage and support new businesses, products, and services <br /> by supporting a healthy and welcoming atmosphere that encourages people to visit the downtown <br /> Hilo area; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Aloha First Friday event in April featured a community theater project <br /> "Alchemy of Aloha",held at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, developed and produced by, The New <br /> Alchemists under the direction of Brandon Estrella, which provided an innovative venue designed to <br /> uplift local voices and showcase Hawaii Island's unique stories; and <br /> WHEREAS,this type of public promotion provides positive exposure for the culture and arts, <br /> businesses,products, and services on a large scale, fostering further economic development; and <br /> WHEREAS,the EHCC is requesting reimbursement for expenses incurred during and for the <br /> development,production and implementation of the Alchemy of Aloha project, including but not <br /> limited to supplies,printing, refreshments and other items necessary for the community project, in <br /> support of its Aloha First Friday event in April; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency <br /> Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying <br /> the nonprofit organization and the specific program,project, event, activity, service, equipment, <br /> materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Research <br /> and Development to provide a grant to the East Hawaii Cultural Council for reimbursement of <br /> expenses associated with the Aloha First Friday event in April that featured a community theater <br /> project by The New Alchemists. <br />
