RESOLUTION NO. 169 17 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FOOD BASKET INC. TO EXTEND ITS INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR FRESH PRODUCE TO COUNCIL DISTRICT 7. WHEREAS, The Food Basket Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that feeds the disadvantaged people in Hawai`i County while collaborating with various organizations to address poverty, which is one of the root causes of hunger and other social ills; and WHEREAS, The Food Basket Inc. partners with local grocery retailers and farmers' markets to provide incentives, such as dollar-for-dollar matching funds,to eligible SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) families to improve their nutrition by encouraging the consumption of more fresh fruits and vegetables; and WHEREAS, The Food Basket Inc. proposes to extend its incentive program and community outreach to Council District 7 to ensure that eligible SNAP families will have year- round access to a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables; and WHEREAS, The Food Basket Inc. is requesting funds for its incentive program to administer matching funds and to pay for supplies and outreach efforts in Council District 7; and WHEREAS,the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that focus on health and wellness; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County, Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to The Food Basket Inc. to extend its incentive program for fresh produce to Council District 7. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
