tl OF <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII `�`'-��' / �= STATE OF HAWAII <br /> •.o <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> 172 9 '7 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM <br /> A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND <br /> RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL TO SUPPORT THE <br /> BIG ISLAND INVASIVE SPECIES COMMITTEE WITH ITS ONGOING EFFORTS TO <br /> PREVENT,DETECT,AND CONTROL INVASIVE SPECIES ON HAWAII ISLAND. <br /> WHEREAS,the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council is a <br /> 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose purpose is to accelerate the conservation, development, <br /> and utilization of natural resources,to improve the general level of economic activity, and to <br /> enhance the environment and standard of living in designated areas; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) was established in <br /> 1996 and is a federal-state-private partnership whose mission is to prevent, detect, and control <br /> the establishment and spread of invasive species on Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, BIISC's ongoing efforts to protect Hawai`i Island's way of life, economy, <br /> and environment from invasive species is in line with the efforts of the Big Island Resource <br /> Conservation and Development Council to conserve, enhance, and promote the economic, <br /> cultural, and natural environment on Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council is <br /> requesting funds to assist BIISC with purchasing supplies, equipment, and refreshments for <br /> volunteers that will assist with its ongoing efforts to prevent, detect, and control invasive species; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,the project falls in line with the Department of Research and <br /> Development's goal to support initiatives involving invasive species research or educational <br /> extension programs; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the Big Island Resource Conservation and <br /> Development Council to assist the Big Island Invasive Species Committee with its ongoing <br /> efforts to prevent, detect, and control invasive species on Hawai`i Island. <br />
