'�=0'��_4 <br /> 41.," STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ' ,TB OF•MF'�- <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1' 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FOOD BASKET, <br /> INC.,TO ASSIST THE BODACIOUS LADIES EMERGENCY FOOD HUNGER RELIEF <br /> PROGRAM OF PUNA. <br /> WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose goals <br /> include eradicating hunger on Hawai`i Island through the redistribution of food to prevent waste <br /> and collaborating with organizations with similar missions to eradicate the root of hunger and <br /> other social ills, such as poverty; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the organizations that The Food Basket, Inc., collaborates with is the <br /> Bodacious Ladies, a group of women in the Puna district that are focused on helping their <br /> community through food distribution and natural emergency preparedness; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Bodacious Ladies is a group of committed volunteers serving under the <br /> auspices of the Youth Business Center and the Community Grassroots Project,that was formed <br /> to help communities in Puna become food sustainable, and was a significant community <br /> contributor after Tropical Storm Iselle made landfall and the need for services in the Puna <br /> community increased substantially; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Food Basket, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with the purchase of <br /> non-perishable and cold foods in support the Bodacious Ladies Food Pantry projects; and <br /> WHEREAS,this emergency food grant will allow the Bodacious Ladies to continue <br /> providing food for approximately 600 individuals and families in the Puna region; and <br /> WHEREAS,this project as identified fits within the Department of Research and <br /> Development's Community Building, that focuses on collaborating with Community-based <br /> organizations to balance economic, social and community,health, and environmental priorities; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to The Food Basket, Inc., to assist with the <br /> Bodacious Ladies emergency food hunger relief program of Puna. <br /> ..
