COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 204 17 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE FUTURE FOR FRIENDS 4 WAIMEA'S RECYCLE FOOD PROGRAM. WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that envisions harmony and balance among the diverse people of Hawai`i and encourages each person to contribute their deepest values to create shared visions and to continuously improve communities; and WHEREAS, Friends 4 Waimea is a group of volunteers who are dedicated to providing free, quality prepared food to those in need to create a healthier and safer community; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is committed to working with Friends 4 Waimea in its efforts to share resources, improve the quality of life, and influence the future through the Recycle Food program; and WHEREAS, Friends 4 Waimea's Recycle Food program collects quality donated food that would otherwise be disposed of by stores and restaurants, and this program is backed by the federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996 and the Hawai`i Good Samaritan Donation of Food Act(Chapter 145D, Hawai`i Revised Statutes), which protects the donor and the distributing organization from liability; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funds for supplies,transportation expenses, and venue rental fees for the Recycle Food program; and WHEREAS,the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote drug-free and alcohol-free events; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, • Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Friends of the Future for Friends 4 Waimea's Recycle Food program.
