No. 192-17 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:16 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 192-17 reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 192-17, transmitted by Maile David, Finance Chair, via Communication No. 261 <br /> dated April 20, 2017, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation <br /> Maintenance Stewardship Grant to Hawai`i Wildlife Fund.. <br /> This resolution approves a grant of$13,200 to Hawai`i Wildlife Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization, for the purpose of protecting, preserving, and restoring the Kawa properties (Tax <br /> Map Keys: 9-5-016:006 & 025; and 9-5-017:005 & 007),pursuant to Section 10-16(a) of the <br /> Hawai`i County Charter. <br /> Committee Chair Maile David stated this resolution is based on the recommendations of Parks & <br /> Recreation to continue the maintenance of the Hawai`i Wildlife Fund to preserve and protect the <br /> Kawa lands in Ka`u. <br /> Council Member Karen Eoff congratulated Hawaii Wildlife Fund and commented that Kawa is <br /> a huge parcel and the more we can do to take care of it, the better. <br /> Council Member Dru Kanuha commented on the size of the parcel and how the stewardship <br /> grant for$13,200 is not a lot of money to maintain the property. <br /> Committee Chair David stated that Hawai`i Wildlife Fund is not the only organization applying <br /> for a maintenance grant for Kawa. It is her understanding that other nonprofit organizations will <br /> apply for maintenance grants that will provide different maintenance programs for Kawa as well <br /> as other PONC properties purchased by the County. Although Kawa is a large parcel, Ms. David <br /> stated that collaboration among various nonprofit groups will be a benefit to maintain and protect <br /> the property. She also noted that Hawai`i Wildlife Fund has secured matching funds to assist <br /> with their maintenance program. <br /> FC Report No. 18 <br />
