May 14, 2017
To Hawaii County Council Members, RE: Res. 205.17
I have attached several documents to this email. Open and read each one as I refer to them below.
This testimony and the attached documents are testimony to the fact that Puna has and continues to
experience a lack of funding for infrastructure in the following two areas:
Pahoa Village Road (Government Road)
Open the "Downtown Pahoa Government Road Portfolio". Go through pages 1-5, looking at the
comments on each of the pictures. We have needed sidewalks for a number of years and the county
has done nothing about it. Our residents who walk the road are put at risk every time they walk down
it. Several pedestrians have been hit by cars on this road.
Housing for the Elderly and Low Income People
Look at the Big Island Foundation Fact Sheet. There are 121 units mention, 20 are in Puna (Keaau)
Look at the Big Island Foundation Newsletter for February 2017, last page. The Big Island Foundation
Executives and Directors. I would bet that none reside in Puna.
Look at the Low Income Housing in Hilo document. There are 867 subsidized rental units in Hilo. .1
wonder how many there are in Puna?
Look at the Hale Hoalaha Portfilio. We have nothing like this in Puna.
Look at the Low Income House in Hilo document. There are 867 subsidized rentals in Hilo.
