He was born and raised in Hilo. Mr. Nahakuelua is a US Army <br /> Veteran having served.6 years of active duty including one year in Afghanistan. He is a <br /> member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #3830 and the Hawai'i Island Veterans <br /> Memorial, Inc. <br /> After serving our country, Mr. Nahakuelua took advantage of the GI Bill and went on to <br /> earn a BA in Psychology from UH Hilo and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from UH <br /> Manoa. He is currently employed as a social worker in adult mental health with the <br /> state's Department of Health. Mr. Nahakuelua is also a prolific artist. <br /> Mr. Nahakuelua states he is not affiliated with any political party.
