Mr. Akau retired from Willocks Construction after 20 years of <br /> employment. <br /> Alex Akau was born and raised on Hawai'i Island. He is a graduate of Honokaa High <br /> School and an active member of the Waimea community where he currently lives. Mr. <br /> Akau is a co-founder of the Aloha Festivals Paniolo Parade and the Poke Contest. <br /> In 2013, Mr. Akau was honored by Parker Ranch at its 51st Annual July 4th Rodeo and <br /> Horse Races. As an honoree, Mr. Akau was described as someone who "lives by <br /> kokua and is always kind and generous to everyone around him, but enjoys working <br /> under the radar while wearing a cloak of humility so others can prosper".
