No. 228-17 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:03 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development, to which was referred <br /> Resolution No. 228-17 reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 228-17, transmitted by Committee Member Valerie T. Poindexter, via <br /> Communication No. 326, dated June 22, 2017, approves the establishment of a sister-city <br /> relationship between the Municipality of Cabugao, province of Ilocos Sur,Philippines and the <br /> County of Hawaii to enter into a formal signed agreement. <br /> Members of the Big Island Filipino Council testified in support of Resolution No. 228-17. <br /> This Resolution proposes to establish a viable and meaningful relationship that benefit the people <br /> of the affiliated cities through the exchange of cultural exhibits, educational programs, <br /> agricultural pursuits, information relative to economic development of mutual interests, and <br /> other matters of common interest. <br /> Committee Member Valerie T. Poindexter moved to amend the resolution with <br /> Communication 326.1, to correct the referenced location of Cabugao Municipality, to make <br /> reference to the definition of Sakadas, and add language as to when the Sakadas were last <br /> recruited to come to Hawai`i. <br /> The vote on the motion to amend this resolution with the contents of Communication 326.1 was <br /> taken and passed with nine"ayes." The vote was then taken on the motion to approve <br /> Resolution No. 228-17 as amended and passed with nine"ayes." <br /> GREDC Report No. 5 <br />
