Hopefully, other Neighboring Islands and
the State as a whole will have similar Regulations.
As an environmental, health and safety engineer, I can confirm that Polystyrene is VERY detrimental to marine
and wildlife. These creatures on land and in the oceans ingest this material, cannot digest it and many times die.
In addition, Polystyrene foam is not degradable, sitting for years and years on land, as well as in the oceans.
This material ends up filling up our already full landfills on the Island, since it does not degrade.
As you may be aware, many States have passed similar regulations banning Polystyrene.
I encourage all of you to Vote in Favor of Bill 13 for our environment on land and in the sea.
Mahalo for allowing me to share my comments and observations.
Mark Gordon
Waikoloa HI.
tray. 1®. lbl.ii.o
Ref.
