REQUEST: <br /> Resolution authorizing County (via R & D) to enter into agreement with Office of Research Services, <br /> University of Hawaii, to provide funding for its AgVenture program. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes § 46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" <br /> with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R & D to enter <br /> into an agreement with Office of Research Services, University of Hawaii, a public body, for the purposes of <br /> funding its AgVenture program pursuant to HCC 2-139(3)(c). <br /> The AgVenture program seeks to address the issue of agricultural awareness and career opportunities by <br /> supplementing 4th grade classes with events that focuses on agricultural careers and entrepereneurial <br /> opportunities. The program exposes these students to the range of opportunities that are available in <br /> agriculture and its corollary businesses, both with established companies and in creating start-up businesses <br /> in agricultural production, processing, distribution, and marketing. The $25,000 program Will hold at least <br /> three of the events at various venues around Hawaii Island. <br /> Mission of 4-H: 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnerhsip with caring <br /> adults. <br /> Vision of 4-H: A world in which youth and adults learn, grow and work together as catalysts for positive change. <br /> The term of the contract will end on June 30, 2018. <br /> • <br /> —07SIGNED: DATE: 7l07 <br /> epartm .
