REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: August 1, 2017 Re: Comm. No. 357 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:05 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 357, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 357, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 12, 2017, nominates <br /> Nathan Gaddis to the Banyan Drive Hawai`i Redevelopment Agency. <br /> Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Gaddis who appeared in <br /> Hilo Chambers. Mr. Gaddis was born and raised in Hawai`i and is a realtor and former <br /> marketing director, an apprentice,journalist and manager of a small business. If confirmed,he <br /> would serve to fill a term ending on May 31, 2022. Mr. Gaddis states that he is affiliated with <br /> the Democratic party. <br /> Several Council Members commented in favor of Mr. Gaddis' nomination. The vote was then <br /> taken with eight Council Members voting "aye." Chair Eoff stated that Mr. Gaddis does not <br /> need to appear at the Council meeting on August 16, 2017, for confirmation of his appointment. <br /> Pursuant to Hawai`i Revised Statutes, Chapter 53, the Council established the Banyan Drive <br /> Hawai`i Redevelopment Agency via Resolution No. 481-16, which agency shall consist of five <br /> members, appointed by the Mayor,with the approval of Council. <br /> Pursuant to Hawai`i County Code Section 2-35.1, the Planning Department shall be the lead <br /> agency to enable the County to directly exercise its powers as provided for in Hawaii Revised <br /> Statutes, Chapter 53, Parts I and II, and shall delegate the responsibilities of the Hawai`i <br /> redevelopment agency to the appropriate departments, commissions and agencies to ensure that <br /> the procedures of compliance are adhered to. <br /> Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication <br /> No. 357, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Nathan Gaddis to the Banyan <br /> Drive Hawai`i Redevelopment Agency. <br /> wb <br /> AYES NOES ABS EX Respectfully submitted, <br /> CHUNG X <br /> DAVID x COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> EOFF X <br /> KANUHA X <br /> LEE LOY X <br /> O'HARA X X__LA <br /> POINDEXTER x KAREN EOFF, HAIR <br /> RICHARDS X PC REPORT NO.: 23 <br /> RUGGLES x ADOPTED: AUG 1 6 2017 <br />
