REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE,WATER AND <br /> ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY <br /> DATE: August 1, 2017 Re: Communication No. 359 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:31 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability, to which was referred <br /> Communication No. 359, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 359,transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 13, 2017,nominates <br /> James O'Keefe of Council District 3 to the County of Hawai`i Game Management Advisory <br /> Commission. The motion to approve the nomination of James O'Keefe was made by Council <br /> Member Eoff, and seconded by Council Member Lee Loy. <br /> As introduced by Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Harry Kim, Mr. O'Keefe has <br /> been a resident of Hawai`i for the past 47 years, is an Electronic Technician for the County of <br /> Hawai`i Department of Water Supply, and former owner of longtime business, O'Keefe and <br /> Sons. An avid hunter and sports enthusiast and active member of our community, nominee <br /> O'Keefe volunteers as the Chief Range Safety Officer instructor and basic shotgun instructor for <br /> the County of Hawai`i Parks and Recreation Department. <br /> Nominee O'Keefe wasresent and thanked the Committee for the opportunity, noting his <br /> p <br /> immense background in firearms and safety and eagerness to work with the commission and <br /> community in fulfilling the mission of the Game Management Advisory Commission. Nominee <br /> O'Keefe is affiliated with the Republican Party and if confirmed, he will serve a term ending <br /> December 31, 2019. <br /> Committee Chair Tim Richards indicated that safety is paramount relative to gun use and game <br /> management, and nominee O'Keefe would be an asset to the commission. Committee members <br /> noted their support to the same testament. Chair Richards provided that due to Mr. O'Keefe's <br /> presence today, it was not required for him to attend the upcoming confirmation Council <br /> meeting. <br /> AWESC Report No. 2 <br />
