,O;�tYOFN,• <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -•: _} STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 302 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND <br /> FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED <br /> FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF HOKULE`A AND <br /> HAWAI`ILOA TO SUPPORT THE "MAHALO,HAWAII SAIL" TO MOKU 0 KEAWE. <br /> WHEREAS, in 2014 members of the Polynesian Voyaging Society embarked on a three- <br /> year, around-the-world voyage called the "Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage", on the double-hulled <br /> canoe; "Hokulea"; and <br /> WHEREAS, on August 16, 2017, voyaging canoes Hokule`a and Hikianalia departed the <br /> Marine Education Training Center(METC) at Sand Island to begin the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail"; and <br /> WHEREAS, the "Mahalo,Hawai`i Sail" is an educational outreach initiative that will take <br /> Polynesian Voyaging Society members and the Hokule`a to 80 communities state wide, to thank <br /> everyone for all the aloha and support given throughout the voyage; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization <br /> whose mission is to teach and perpetuate the Hawaiian traditions of building, restoring, and caring <br /> for canoes; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa will be helping with the"Mahalo, <br /> Hawai`i Sail" by coordinating outreach events for crew members to engage with schools and <br /> organizations through service projects,presentations, and canoe tours; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa is requesting funds to assist with the <br /> "Mahalo,Hawaii Sail"homecoming to Moku 0 Keawe, Hawai`i Island, including costs for <br /> materials, supplies, food, and drinks, which will take place between September 29 and <br /> October 27, 2017; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to facilitate <br /> opportunities, such as this educational outreach,that meet the needs of the Big Island community <br /> while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage and diversity; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency <br /> Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying <br /> the nonprofit organization and the specific program,project, event, activity, service, equipment, <br /> materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks <br /> and Recreation to provide a grant to The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa to support the "Mahalo, <br /> Hawai`i Sail"to Moku 0 Keawe. <br />
