STATE OF HAWAII .......,, RESOLUTION NO. 313 17 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF HOKULE`A AND HAWAI`ILOA FOR THE "MAHALO, HAWAII SAIL" EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH TO HAWAII ISLAND. WHEREAS, members of the Polynesian Voyaging Society sailed the Hokulea around the world on a historic three-year voyage, called the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage, building international partnerships by sharing the Aloha spirit and a message of global sustainability; and WHEREAS, to thank the people of Hawai`i for their support, crew members of the voyaging canoes Hokulea and Hikianalia have commenced the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail,"which will include educational outreach to nearly 80 communities throughout the Hawaiian Islands; and WHEREAS, The Friends of Hai-ilea and Hawai`iloa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to teach and perpetuate the Hawaiian traditions of building, restoring, and caring for canoes; and WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa will be helping with the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail"by coordinating outreach events for crew members to engage with Hawai`i Island schools and organizations through service projects,presentations, and canoe tours; and WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa is requesting funds to assist with educational supplies and transportation expenses for youth to attend educational presentations and canoe tours when the crew members of Hokulea and Hikianalia visit Hawai`i Island; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa for student transportation expenses and educational supplies in conjunction with the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail" educational outreach to Hawai`i Island. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
