o�MtYO6�t�yt, <br /> rt \,o,;? <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 328 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND <br /> RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR THE SAKADA <br /> DAY CELEBRATION 2017. <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council <br /> (BIRCDC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the economic, cultural, and <br /> natural environment of Hawai`i Island through sponsorship of festivals,programs, and special <br /> events unique to this island; and <br /> WHEREAS, on April 9, 2009,the Honorable Governor David Ige signed into law <br /> HB604 dedicating December 20th as Sakada Day, providing a long-awaited formal recognition of <br /> this very important part of the Filipino community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the third annual Sakada Day Celebration will be hosted by Pahala town on <br /> December 17, 2017, to honor, showcase, and commemorate the legacy of 125,000 sugar and <br /> pineapple plantation workers (sakadas)recruited from the Philippines between 1906-1946 by the <br /> Hawai`i Sugar Planters Association; and <br /> WHEREAS, BIRCDC is requesting funds for food, refreshments, materials,and supplies <br /> for activities, demonstrations, and workshop for the Sakada Day Celebration 2017 on December <br /> 17, 2017; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the Big Island Resource Conservation and <br /> Development Council to assist with the Sakada Day Celebration 2017. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
