M,...•• <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -� �' '��• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ..............CF• � .' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 329 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF <br /> HOKULE`A AND HAWAI`ILOA FOR THE "MAHALO, HAWAII SAIL" OUTREACH <br /> EVENTS IN WEST HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, members of the Polynesian Voyaging Society sailed the Hokulea around <br /> the world on a historic voyage, called the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage, to support and <br /> encourage efforts toward a more sustainable planet; and <br /> WHEREAS, crew members of the voyaging canoes Hokule`a and Hikianalia will be <br /> sailing around the Hawaiian Islands to nearly 80 communities for an educational outreach called <br /> "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail"; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to teach and perpetuate the Hawaiian traditions of building, <br /> restoring, and caring for canoes; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa will be working with the crew <br /> members of Hokule`a and Hikianalia to coordinate outreach events with the communities, which <br /> will include service projects, educational presentations, and canoe tours; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa is requesting financial assistance <br /> for food, drinks, and related supplies needed to hold outreach events during the port visits in <br /> West Hawai`i in September and October 2017; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this outreach event as it <br /> falls within its Culture and Education program to promote,perpetuate, and encourage activities <br /> and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Friends of Hokule`a and Hawai`iloa to assist with <br /> expenses related to the "Mahalo, Hawaii Sail" outreach events in West Hawai`i. <br />
