- tY OF� N�; <br /> n <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -i �# STATE OF HAWAII <br /> '.144 OF.N'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 3G2 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MO`OKINI LUAKINI <br /> INC., TO ASSIST WITH TRANSPORTATION COSTS FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING <br /> THE ANNUAL MO`OKINI LUAKINI CHILDREN'S DAY. <br /> WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization that <br /> perpetuates the history of Mo`okini Heiau by sharing its cultural significance with the children of <br /> Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mo`okini Heiau is located in North Kohala and is one of the oldest <br /> historical sites in the Hawaiian Islands, and was declared a National Historic Landmark on <br /> December 29, 1962, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1978 Leimomi Lum Kahuna Nui of Mo`okini Heiau lifted the restrictive <br /> kapu forbidding anyone but ali`i and kahuna from entering the heiau and dedicated it first to the <br /> children of Hawai`i and later to the children of the world; and <br /> WHEREAS, Leimomi Lum Kahuna Nui of Mo`okini Heiau has hosted the Annual <br /> Mo`okini Luakini Children's Day event for 35 years, engaging students in the regal history of <br /> Mo`okini Heiau and promoting the importance of protecting its cultural heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with transportation <br /> costs for students in outlying rural areas to attend the Annual Mo`okini Luakini Children's Day; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to Mass Transit Agency <br /> to provide a grant to Mo`okini Luakini Inc.,to assist with transportation for the Annual Mo`okini <br /> Luakini Children's Day. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
