COUNTY OF HAWAII - *� �'''°-�' ��•- STATE OF HAWAII <br /> �rE oF•Nr+ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 365 i <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MO`OKINI LUAKINI, <br /> INC., TO ASSIST WITH TRANSPORTATION EXPENSES FOR STUDENTS TO <br /> ATTEND THE MO`OKINI LUAKINI "CHILDREN'S DAY" EVENT IN NORTH <br /> KOHALA. <br /> WHEREAS, the Mo`okini Luakini Heiau in North Kohala, built around the year 480 <br /> A.D., is the oldest and most significant heiau in Hawai`i and was registered in 1962 as Hawai`i's <br /> first National Historic Landmark; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Mo`okini Luakini "Children's Day" event is held annually in <br /> November, and is hosted by descendant Kahu Leimomi Mo`okini Lum to allow Hawai`i Island <br /> students to engage in the history of this cultural site, and to learn the importance of protecting <br /> Hawaiian heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created in <br /> 1979 to preserve the Mo`okini Luakini Heiau in North Kohala; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with transportation <br /> costs for students from schools across Hawai`i Island to participate at the Mo`okini Luakini <br /> "Children's Day" event at the Mo`okini Heiau in North Kohala on November 3, 2017; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Mass Transit <br /> Agency to provide a grant to Mo`okini Luakini, Inc., to assist with student transportation <br /> expenses to attend the Mo`okini Luakini "Children's Day" event on November 3, 2017. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
