..�V.SY Oi H1/j7 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII {_ �'- /_* STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1/R4 1`7 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PUNA <br /> COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER TO SUPPORT ITS "UNINSURED FUND." <br /> WHEREAS,the Puna Community Medical Center (PCMC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization, is a community-based, walk-in medical clinic whose mission is to provide readily- <br /> accessible, high-quality health care for the residents and visitors of Puna; and <br /> WHEREAS, PCMC is experiencing an increase in patient visits from uninsured, low- <br /> income individuals, because for many, the only alternative is the Hilo Medical Center's <br /> emergency room; and <br /> WHEREAS, to ensure that no one is turned away, PCMC offers a sliding-scale payment <br /> option based on income eligibility to those in need of urgent medical care; and <br /> WHEREAS, PCMC is requesting funds to support its "uninsured fund"that helps to <br /> defray the cost of providing medical services to an ever-increasing number of uninsured <br /> individuals in Puna; and <br /> this initiative falls within the objectivesDepartment of Research and of the <br /> WHEREAS, <br /> Development's social and economic development program, which is to identify the needs of the <br /> community and support projects that promote social economic growth; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the Puna Community Medical Center to support <br /> its "uninsured fund." <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
