..OJtYpi M 1' <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII 1.-f �.._ /�.�- •STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ::) .:1:. <br /> ,, SFOF�H►�RESOLUTINO. 400 it <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE AAUW KONA <br /> EDUCATIONAL FUND TO ASSIST WITH THE 2017 GIRLS EXPLORING MATH <br /> AND SCIENCE EVENT IN WEST HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, the AAUW Kona Educational Fund (AAUW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization that promotes educational activities for women and girls and encourages higher <br /> education to the young women of West Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) is an annual event hosted by <br /> AAUW to teach math, science, and technology to fifth-grade girls using hands-on activities; and <br /> WHEREAS, participants of this event are introduced to women within the community <br /> who hold careers in the fields of math and science to encourage and inspire the next generation <br /> of STEM professionals; and <br /> WHEREAS, AAUW has requested a reimbursement for student registration fees for the <br /> GEMS event that was held on November 9, 2017; and <br /> WHEREAS,this event falls within the program goals and objectives of the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide juvenile delinquency prevention and to support educational <br /> opportunities for females to help them to become future community leaders; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to the AAUW Kona Educational Fund to assist with the <br /> 2017 GEMS event in West Hawai`i. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
