COUNTY OF HAWAII • ' /_*= STATE OF HAWAII • Nit FA'`` RESOLUTION NO. 2 1 '7 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE FUTURE TO SUPPORT THE KONAWAENA ROBOTICS TEAM'S PARTICIPATION AT THE FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION. WHEREAS,Konawaena Robotics Team will be participating in the For Inspiration& Recognition of Science & Technology (FIRST) Robotic Competition, which will be held at the University of Hawai`i in the Stan Sheriff Center on March 22-24, 2018; and WHEREAS,the FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate sport of the mind that high school student participants compete in under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six- week time limit, and where teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand", hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create trust and harmony among diverse cultures of Hawai`i by engaging in activities and promoting programs where all people can openly contribute their values, share visions, and improve communities; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future supports the efforts of the Konawaena Robotics Team, which promotes robotics at an early age and sustains students' interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funds to assist the Konawaena Robotics Team with the state competition event registration fees and supplies; and WHEREAS, one of the Department of Liquor Control's goals is to support public and youth programs through education and activities which promote a drug and alcohol free environment; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Friends of the Future to support the Konawaena Robotics Team's participation at the FIRST Robotics Competition.
