eyOF p� COUNTY OF HAWAII +• .� '' !i•= STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 425 17 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE FUTURE TO SUPPORT THE KONAWAENA ROBOTICS TEAM'S PARTICIPATION AT THE FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION. WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization whose mission is to create trust and harmony among the diverse cultures of Hawai`i through a process where all people can openly contribute their deepest values, create shared visions, and continuously improve their communities; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is working in partnership with the Konawaena Robotics Team by inspiring youth to experience and build skills in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math(STEM) fields, both in and out of the classroom; and WHEREAS, the For Inspiration& Recognition of Science & Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition is a contest held under strict rules, limited resources, and guidance of volunteer professional mentors, where teams of students will have six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks, and which will be held at University of Hawai`i Stan Sheriff Center on March 22 thru 24th, 2018; and WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funds to assist with entry fees to this year's FIRST Robotics Competition, which will include team registration, a robot kit of parts, and a spot at the regional competition; and WHEREAS, one of the Department of Liquor Control's goals is to support programs that promote smoke-, drug-, and alcohol-free activities and programs conducted in a healthy and safe environment to benefit those who reside in the community; and WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139 (a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Friends of the Future to assist with expenses to support the Konawaena Robotic Team's participation at the FIRST Robotics Competition.
