OF'• <br /> ''' 4 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII i. 4\ -' !:tSTATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 433 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO•GOING HOME <br /> HAWAII FOR ITS PU`UHONUA 0 HILO PILOT PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization whose purpose <br /> is to reintegrate former offenders into the community and the workplace; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is creating its Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot program to <br /> bring Native Hawaiian concepts of a place of peace, safety, and healing into social services for <br /> offenders; and <br /> WHEREAS,this Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot program is designed to address the issue of <br /> Native Hawaiians being overrepresented at every stage of the criminal justice system; and <br /> WHEREAS, this project will reduce recidivism for this target population by utilizing <br /> Hawaiian traditional concepts to help today's pa`ahao (prisoners), including Ho`oponopono (to <br /> make right) and E Ho`okanaka(be a person of worth); and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is requested funds for defraying the housing costs, <br /> utilities, and supplies that are part of the expenses for this pilot program; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is to support <br /> programs that improve the criminal justice system by identifying areas of need and working <br /> collaboratively with other criminal justice agencies and the community by employing early <br /> intervention initiatives to improve the quality of life on the Big Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Going Home Hawai`i for its Pu'uhonua 0 Hilo pilot <br /> project. <br />
