-�NtY OF N�, <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII --. ..•- STATE OF HAWAI I <br /> 4 IR <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5�9 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF <br /> HOKULE`A AND'HAWAI`ILOA FOR THE 2018 "MAHAL O,HAWAII SAIL" <br /> EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH. <br /> WHEREAS, the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage continues into 2018 as Hokulea, <br /> Hikianalia, and the crew of Polynesian Voyaging Society visit community ports around Hawai`i <br /> to celebrate Mica-lea's homecoming; and <br /> WHEREAS, the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail"brings Hokulea and Hikianalia back home to <br /> all of Hawai`i, in recognition and celebration of the contributions families, employers, and <br /> communities made to help take Hokulea and Hikianalia across the world's ocean; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to teach and perpetuate the Hawaiian traditions of building, <br /> restoring, and caring for canoes; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa will be helping with the "Mahalo, <br /> Hawai`i Sail"by coordinating outreach events for crew members to engage with schools and <br /> organizations through service projects, presentations, and canoe tours; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa is requesting funds to assist with <br /> costs for transportation to outreach events when the crew members of Hokulea visit Hawaii <br /> Island from March through May 2018; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to facilitate <br /> opportunities, such as this educational outreach, that meet the needs of the Big Island community <br /> while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage and diversity; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Friends of Hokulea and Hawai`iloa to provide <br /> for transportation to the "Mahalo, Hawai`i Sail" educational outreach events. <br />
