REQUEST: <br /> Please prepare a resolution to accept a grant from the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation and <br /> also appropriate the funds as follows: <br /> Highway Safety Grant - Misc Equipment $13,340.00 <br /> Highway Safety Grant - Federal Grant Revenues $13,340.00 <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The objective of the Hawaii Fire Department's Child Passenger Safety (CPS) program is to increase <br /> awareness, educate and ensure the proper use of Child Safety Seats by conducting free CPS inspection <br /> clinics at various fire stations and locations throughout Hawaii Island. Our ultimate objective is to reduce <br /> the number of children who are being injured or killed in vehicle crashes each year due to the improper use <br /> or complete failure to use child safety seats. It is our hope to progressively build on the Hawaii Fire <br /> Department's CPS programs in an effort to keep our Keiki safe. <br /> Being that the grant has been awarded, the Department is requesting that the Finance committee be <br /> waived. <br /> 61—, DATE: MAR 2 0 2018 <br /> Department Head <br />
