..OJ�SY OF 4y,,. <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII ; STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> •+rte`' a:��"���. <br /> BILL NO. 100 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 18 22 <br /> AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING TAX MAP KEY (3) 1-5-002:020 AS "PAHOA <br /> DISTRICT PARK" PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 15,ARTICLE 8, SECTION 15-67 OF <br /> THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION,AS AMENDED); AMENDING <br /> SECTION 15-68.1 TO ADD IT TO THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITY <br /> SCHEDULE; AND AMENDING ARTICLE 9, SECTION 15-72 TO ADD IT TO THE <br /> FARMERS MARKET FACILITY SCHEDULE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br /> SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to designate the name "Pahoa <br /> District Park"to the open area situated at Waiakahiula(Pahoa Town), District of Puna, County <br /> and State of Hawai`i, Tax map Key (3). 1-5-002:020 pursuant to chapter 15, article 8, section 15- <br /> 67(a)(2)(A), Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), which provides that an <br /> "open area" shall be named for its neighborhood, community, region, district or other identifying <br /> geographical location. <br /> This County parcel has a long history and has grown in size as needed community <br /> services and recreational opportunities were added. It was acquired in 1965 for the Pahoa Fire <br /> Station, which was built in 1969, on its .255 acres. It was further enlarged in 1975 for buildings <br /> and recreational play yards. Most recently in 2002, land was acquired to encompass its present <br /> size of 71.121 acres. It has located within it, the original Pahoa Community Center(formally <br /> designated as the "Pahoa Neighborhood Facility"per Ordinance No. 00-15), the Pahoa Aquatics <br /> Center,the Ginny Aste Skate Park, and the newly completed covered recreational play court, <br /> along with the lighted outdoor ball fields. <br /> Adding the Pahoa District Park to the Farmers Market Facility Schedule would enhance <br /> sustainable agriculture objectives, encourage farm-to-table opportunities, and provide greater use <br /> of County parks and facilities by the public. A Farmer's Market replacement venue has been <br /> requested by the public since the devastating loss of the historic Akebono Theater complex in <br /> January, 2017. <br /> SECTION 2. Chapter 15, article 8, section 15-68.1, Parks and recreational <br /> facility schedule, "PARKS" and"Puna" sections of the schedule, of the Hawai`i County <br /> Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended by adding "Pahoa District Park"to <br /> be appropriately inserted and to read as follows: <br />
