STATE OF HAWAII <br /> .;..:4 .,,,,-.......0- <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 574 IS <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII <br /> ISLAND PORTGUESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CULTURAL AND <br /> EDUCATIONAL CENTER TO ASSIST WITH THE 140TH YEAR COMMEMORATION <br /> OF THE ARRIVAL OF PORTUGUESE IMMIGRANTS TO HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS,the Hawai`i Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce Cultural and <br /> Educational Center (HIPCCCEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed to <br /> promote and sustain the culture and heritage of the Portuguese; and <br /> WHEREAS,the HIPCCCEC will be celebrating the 140th year commemoration of the <br /> arrival of the first Portuguese immigrants to Hawai`i in the month of September 2018, <br /> throughout Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS,the HIPCCCEC is requesting funds to purchase t-shirts, and for advertising <br /> and other related expenses for presentations in Kona and across the island to commemorate the <br /> 140th anniversary of the arrival of Hawai`i's first Portuguese immigrants to Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Research and Development is to <br /> develop a community-based visitor industry that ensures authenticity, reciprocity, and connects <br /> activities and attractions to a sense of past and future place, such as the event commemorating <br /> the 140th year anniversary of the arrival of Hawai`i's first Portuguese immigrants; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawai`i Island Portuguese Chamber of <br /> Commerce Cultural and Educational Center to assist with the 140th year commemoration of the <br /> arrival of Portuguese immigrants to Hawai`i. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
